This workshop will introduce you to the handling of the brush and ink on rice paper, and some demonstration and hands-on practice of Chinese calligraphy and ink painting as a meditative art form. A Supply List will be provided upon registration and supplies are not included in the cost of the class/workshop.
In this workshop, artist Yeachin Tsai will introduce:
– The history and origin of traditional Chinese calligraphy and ink painting.
– The Four Treasures of a Gentleman’s Study: An introduction to materials and tools.
– Holding the brush, caring for brush, and making it into our instrument.
– Development, variety, and spirit in Chinese calligraphy and ink painting.
– Students will have chance to practice from basics to advanced techniques of Chinese ink art including landscape and still life painting.
Please note that our classes are typically held in the lower level of Arlene’s. Because access to the lower level is available only by stair, please let us know if using the stairs presents any difficulty for you in advance of the class so we can make alternate arrangements. We want to make sure everyone is able to enjoy and participate in our classes.
