Class Description:
This delightful weekend of Sumi ink and brush workshop will introduce students to traditional Chinese calligraphy and ink painting. Learn the principles and practices of these ancient disciplines and explore how the practice can bring us vividly into the energy of the present moment. Following demonstrations and step- by-step instruction, students will develop their hand and eye/body and mind synchronization by practicing basic calligraphy strokes, still life, and landscape.
Supply Information:
Your supply fee covers inks, papers and brushes, plus basic studio consumables.
Students should also bring the following materials:
Suggested:
- Any Chinese/Japanese brushes, rice papers, that you are familiar with
- Any favorite tools, a sketchbook or notebook, drawing or writing utensils
- An apron or clothes you don’t mind getting messy (Snow Farm aprons are available for sale)
Open Studio Guidelines for the 2D Studio:
Open studio is available 24 hours per day throughout your workshop. Instructors will outline safety guidelines for students who are staying to work, including any tools that should not be used without the instructor present. We suggest bringing a cell phone in case an emergency arises and you need to contact the on-site coordinator – their number is posted on the studio bulletin board. Please also note the following guidelines:
- There is to be no consumption of drugs or alcohol in the studios, nor shall students work with studio equipment when under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
- The last person in any studio is responsible for turning off indoor lights and closing up.
