Yeachin Tsai studied traditional Chinese brush painting and calligraphy from an early age growing up in Taiwan. There she also experimented with new materials that characterize modern Western painting. Since moving to New York in 1993 to pursue her MFA degree at Brooklyn College, City University of New York, her work evolved into an unique style, a colorful expression that retains its roots in Chinese painting and embraces the explorative impulses of Western abstraction.
Yeachin’s bold images play in expansive space populated by the movement and color of her energetic marks. The immediacy of the brushwork manifests as dance. Her forms react, push and pull, with delicate balance and lively interaction. In her work, a sense of delight arises with simplicity and richness. Yeachin’s artwork is held in private and public collections around the world.
